About Our Studio

Hi there! I’m Michelle

Born in a family of artist and architect, moved across four cities in Asia and the US. Painted on all sorts of objects growing up, facilitated modeling in my mother’s studio, spent a year learning furniture design, decided to travel to another continent and pulled countless all-nighters in architecture and art studios, built houses for low-income communities, lived in a boathouse on a lake, kayaked to work, ventured into product design, shown my art in solo and group exhibitions

Then I have a family, moved to Singapore, became a mama to a lively 3.5-year-old when I realized I want to share the beautiful, powerful world of art to her and spreading the joy of understanding and loving art to all young children so that they can preserve (hopefully forever) that super power of creativity that came with them to the world.

And boom! Boldly In Art came to life

Teaching Philosophy

At Boldly In Art, we believe in fostering creativity and self-expression in every child. Our philosophy is built on several key principles:

  • Child-Led Exploration:

    • Encouraging children to explore their own ideas and express themselves freely.

    • Viewing children as competent, curious, and full of potential, in line with the Reggio Emilia approach.

    • Allowing the curriculum to emerge from the children’s interests.

  • Learning Through Process Art:

    • We provide materials and tools , prepare environment, demonstrate multiple possibilities on how they can be used, we give project ideas but encourage children to think, plan and execute.

    • Promoting creative thinking and building curious confident critical thinkers with skills of problem solving, imagination, innovation, creativity and the ability to question.

    • Understanding that personal discovery and fulfillment come from children finding their own answers, often through difficulties and struggles

    • Promote and encourage children to face uncertainties and to deal with ambiguity, be comfortable with different answers to the same question, with such skill they learn to plan and cultivate their own path

  • Role of Teachers:

    • Acting as facilitators, not directors, in the learning process.

    • Co-learning with children, exploring and creating together.

  • Environment Design:

    • Thoughtfully and purposefully curated spaces with six multi-sensory stations.

    • Providing opportunities for children to explore, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning.

    • Following the children’s lead during play, instead of directing.

  • Sensory Play Integration:

    • Creating activities that intentionally integrate a variety of senses.

    • Embracing the messiness of art to create joyful and memorable experiences.

    • Promoting self-regulation through interaction with calming mediums.

    • Fostering a lifelong love for creativity and self-expression in a supportive environment.
